Job Description/Purpose

Oversee staff, maintain quality control, ensure safety, manage inventory, troubleshoot problems, document procedures within the laboratory set up.

Job Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, validate technical accuracy and report analytical results.
  • Monitor analytical processes and take remedial action incase of deviations.
  • Consult with analysts to address retests, result anomalies or other problems with samples or analyses.
  • Assist with maintaining up to date records of relevant documentation required for accreditation in consultation with the Laboratory superintendent.
  • Follow Laboratory superintendent’s clear detailed instructions and demonstrate flexibility in executing duties.
  • Keep detailed records of all experimental and investigative work undertaken and submit the required technical report.
  • Ensure effective and optimal utilization of staff, equipment and facilities within the Laboratory.
  • Drive good housekeeping practices to ensure that the work areas and surrounding environment is kept clean at all times.
  • Comply and conform to the QHSE policy of the company and ensure that all staff follow all safety procedures.
  • Have full understanding of LIMS
  • Conform to the Quality Management System [ISO17025:2017].
  • Ensure proper and correct profiling of QA and QC reports for the various clients in keeping to agreed work schedule and turnaround times.
  • Ensure all staff under my supervision are competent in carrying out tasks assigned to them and ensure training records are well kept.
  • Ensure effective communication and coordination amongst all work stations in the Laboratory.
  • Ensure samples are prepared according to standard procedures to achieve expected turnaround and production specifications.
  • Institute the necessary company corrective measures to actions that are contrary to health and safety rules, company rules and procedures.
  • Ensure shipment samples are processed within the agreed time and accuracy. Evaluate and report results in the shipment folder for COA processing.
  • Liaise with Plant Supervisors on sending and submission of production samples.
  • Provide daily production reports and records regarding the number of tests and repeats done, reported and outstanding samples in the system.
  • Assist with the training of new Laboratory employees on the application of the Laboratory techniques and processes.
  • Manage LST and SPT [Lithium heteropolytungstate/Sodium polytungstate] heavy liquids recovery
  • Assist in method development and method validation.
  • Assist in improving the Laboratory processes and problem solving.
  • Assist in investigation of irregularities and non-conformances within the Lab processes including improvement requests and client’s complaints.
  • Identify and report quality issues so as to initiate corrective and preventive action.
  • Assist in planning, monitoring and ordering of consumables within budgetary constraints.
  • Assist in inventory control.
  • Assist with the management of overtime and shift rosters.
